2010 May Not Be the Year for Incumbents

• As I noted a week or so ago, Representative Michele Bachmann (R-MN) recently lost her fundraising firm and her chief of staff resigned, two months prior.
• Previously unreported in this space except in passing, Senator Bob Bennett (R-UT) is now up to facing four primary challengers in his race for a fourth term.
• And, though he kept trying to steer the conversation back to Democratic proposals to aid small business and his own plan to reinvest TARP money, when Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) took a three-city tour on Monday, reporters kept asking about his dwindling poll numbers.

This actually seems to be developing into a national phenomenon and though I don't have any statistics at the ready, nor have I inventoried all of the incumbents, it appears that neither party is immune.

Michele Bachmann Campaigns Against Interest

Michele Bachmann (R-MN) has appeared on cable television saying that she feels the census is an invasion of privacy and won't be filling out a form. While Esme Murphy of WCCO reports in an unembeddable video that Minnesota is within a thousand people of losing a Congressional district and many feel it would be hers.

The Gula Graham Group, a Washington-based, Republican fundraising firm, who represents fourteen members of Congress along with eight of their PACs has terminated their relationship with Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) after three years.

"I would simply say we went in a different direction," Gula said Tuesday. "We no longer represent Michele Bachmann."

Rep. Bachmann hired Mike Gula, co-founder of the group on the recommendation of Michelle Marston, who resigned as her chief of staff, two months ago.

Parroted Threat

A Michigan prosecutor has decided not to file charges against a 60 year-old Port Huron woman for threatening to "take a gun like the guy did at Fort Hood" to her local paper, the Times-Herald to protest an editorial criticizing Rep. Candice Miller (R-MI) for participating in Rep. Michele Bachmann's (R-MN) anti-insurance reform rally.
